Synopsis[]

Background[]

Father evidences a shooting star

Twenty years before the events of Oceanhorn, Blackhat witnesses a falling star.[10] Some time after that, he meets Mary and falls in love with her. They have a son and travel the Uncharted Seas.

One night they seek shelter from a strom in a cave on Home Island. Mary goes outside for a moment but then Oceanhorn appears and takes her, leaving Blackhat alone with his son.[3] Despite the tragedy, the two settle on Home Island and live in a house on the protected backside of a hill. They often go swimming together on that tiny beach in front of the house.[11]

Unfortunately, Oceanhorn returns. In a hurry, Blackhat writes a letter to his son with instructions to find Hermit's Island. He has no time to give a detailed explanation and hopes that his friend Hermit will be able to prepare him for what is to come. Leaving his son asleep behind, Blackhat ventures outside into the rainy night and meets Oceanhorn by the shore. He uses the flute and takes control over the monster.

The sky darkens and the Kid arrives on an unknown island, where his father is standing upon ancient ruins, the giant metal body of Oceanhorn lying behind him. Blackhat is continueoulsy playing the flute, while praying to Sol, Neyto and Trito for his son's safety and guidance.[9]

Blackhat is exhausted, guarding Oceanhorn in the Arcadia Ruins.

Blackhat is able to write another short note to his son and sends it off in a bottle.[12] He managed to get Oceanhorn into the ruins of the White City. There, he cuts it off from the power grid, rendering it unable to heal itself.[13] It is unclear how long Blackhat remained there, but shortly before his son arrives, he drops his flute by the entrance to the underground area. Exhausted he lies near the sleeping Oceanhorn. When his son arrives he tries to rise and explain the situation. When Oceanhorn awakes and attacks, he is too weak to join his son in battle. However, after Oceanhorn jumps up to the surface, he follows his kid upstairs as well, prepared to fight. He jumps onto Oceanhorn and dives his sword into the latch on its back, shouting to his son to deal the final blow. He is thrown off the monster and down the cliffs into the ocean.
